11 Days Morocco Tour Itinerary from Tangier. You will tour the amazing places of Morocco. The trip starts in Tangier. First we will visit Cape Espartel and the Cave of Hercules. Then we will cross the Rif Mountains, stroll through the blue city of Chefchaouen and see the Roman remains of Volubilis. Next, we will head to the Swiss city of Ifrane in Morocco and the cedar forest. We will also ride camels and watch the spectacular sunsets and sunrises of the Merzouga desert in the Sahara. In addition to exploring the Merzouga desert, we will walk through the spectacular Todra and Dades Gorges.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Tangier – Chefchaouen
We will meet at the airport or at the port and start our 11 Days Morocco Tour Itinerary from Tangier to the Rif Mountains, which will take us through the city of Tetouan. To fully enjoy the breathtaking views of the landscape, we will stop to rest at the foot of the Rif Mountains in Chefchaouen. The medina of Chefchaouen is heavily influenced by Spanish architecture, as it was once part of “Spanish Morocco”. It is also home to many restaurants and rooftop cafes, also available in its riads, where you can enjoy the rest of the evening with a nice breeze and a wonderful view.
Day 2: Chefchaouen – Fez
After a tasty breakfast, our journey continues to Volubilis, passing through Ouazan and other Rif villages. In Volubilis, we will visit the Roman ruins and discover the history of Morocco before ending the day in Fez. Continuing on to Meknes, we will stop for lunch and explore the historic walls of the medina along with Bab el Mansour and a visit to the shrine of Moulay Ismail. By mid-afternoon we will be on our way to Fez, where we will stay.
Day 3: Guided tour of Fez
We will start the day exploring the oldest city in Morocco and meandering through its narrow streets and alleys. We begin our visit at the gate of the royal palace and the Jewish quarter, where Morocco’s first mellah was built in the 16th century. We will be sure to visit all the places of cultural and historical interest, including the famous University of Al Qaraouine, the oldest in the region. We will also visit the tanneries, the Attarine Museum and the Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss. After lunch, we will visit different cooperatives and then, we will experience a wonderful panoramic view over the entire Medina of Fez.
Day 4: Fez – Ifran – Ziz Valley – Merzouga
Breakfast and departure to the Atlas Mountains, stopping to visit the village of Ifrane, where we will have the opportunity to explore the famous cedar forest, home of the Berber monkeys. Then we will continue through the mountain pass of Tiz Ntalghamt and the Ziz Gorge (where we can stop for photos and mint tea) to Midelt. Then we will continue to Merzouga, arriving at our camp where we will spend the night.
Day 5: Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley
After waking up, enjoy a wonderful sunrise and a shower before driving to Ouarzazate. On the way, we will visit the Berber villages of Todra and Dades. In the Dades Valley, we will stop at a local hotel where we will spend the night and enjoy a complimentary dinner.
Day 6: Dades Valley – Skoura – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou
After breakfast, we will continue our route to Ouarzazate along the Route of the Thousand Kasbahs (fortresses) and stop at Kalaat Mgouna, Center of the Valley of the Roses, a city famous for its annual Rose Festival. Next, we will pass through Ait Ben Haddou (UNESCO World Heritage Site), It is well known for having served as a film set for the HBO series Game of Thrones and movies like Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator.
Day 7: Ait Benhaddou – Essaouira
After breakfast, we will take the mountain pass of Tizi-n-Tichka to reach Marrakech and approach the Atlantic coast, where Essaouira, the Pearl of the Atlantic, is located. In the afternoon we will stay in a local riad and go out to watch the sunset from the ramparts, an experience not to be missed. In the evening, we will dine on the freshest fish in town, and later take an evening stroll through its tranquil and picturesque surroundings.
Day 8: Guided tour of Essaouira
Today you will have the opportunity to explore the ancient city “Mogador”, the name given to it by the Portuguese. Rated as one of the most beautiful coastal cities of the Atlantic, its medina is a blue and white canvas surrounded by extensive beaches and the ancient citadel walls of the Portuguese colonial era. Overnight in a local Riad.
Day 9: Essaouira – Marrakech
After lunch at the port, we will set off for Marrakech with minimal stops, spending the night in a local Riad / Hotel.
Day 10: Guided tour of Marrakech
Today we will have an official guided tour of Marrakech. We will explore the main attractions and monuments of the city, including the famous Jamma el Fna square, the Koutoubia Mosque, the souks, palaces and museums. We will also explore parts of the city such as Gueliz, the Menara Gardens and Majorelle. After lunch at a local restaurant, you will have the opportunity to explore the city at your leisure.
Day 11: Marrakech Airport
