Explore Casablanca

Top most beautiful places to visit: Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful sights in Casablanca has to be the Hassan II mosque. It’s breathtakingly beautiful and a must-see when you’re in town.

This small village is known locally as an ighrem (something similar to a fortified, protected village) which was once used as a stopping-off point for traders across the desert.

Although very few people live here now, it’s still an incredibly beautiful village to see. Be sure to arrive early to avoid the crowds (and that intense midday sun).

See the city of Marrakech

Top most beautiful places to visit: Marrakech needs a little introduction. It’s probably the best-known city in Morocco (at least internationally). Be sure to explore the markets and souks for some great finds. Admire the magnificent Majorelle Gardens, visit the Ben Youssef Medersa, the El Badi Palace, and stroll through the Bahia Palace.

A word of warning about the snake charmers you see on the streets, often the snakes are caught in the wild and some even have their mouths sewn shut and their fangs removed (so they can’t harm you).

See the blue village of Chefchaouen

Be sure to visit the medina, where you’ll find a much more relaxing and calm experience compared to the souks of Marrakech. The Spanish Mosque is also a great little place to see.

Sleep in the desert at Merzouga

In the east of Morocco lies the tiny village of Merzouga.

Just a stone’s throw from the Algerian border, it’s nestled in sand dunes that make it an ideal place to explore the Sahara desert. If you’re really lucky, you might even spot a few flamingos. The drive from Marrakech can take up to 10 hours, so make sure you have a driver/guide to take you. You can usually combine this with a night in a desert yurt.

Explore the capital, Rabat

Perched on the Atlantic Ocean, Rabat is the capital of Morocco. Be sure to visit the Kasbah des Oudaias, see the Hassan Tower and explore the Royal Palace.

For tasty dishes, head to Dar Zaki, which serves comforting Harira soup.

Spend a few days in Tangier

At the gateway to the Mediterranean Sea, Tangier faces Gibraltar and Spain across the Strait of Gibraltar. Be sure to visit the Medina (yes, they say it in every city), see the Grotto of Hercules and enter the Tangier Kasbah.

Discover the Dades Gorges

Finding some of the best things to do in Morocco is never difficult when it comes to natural sites, such as the Dades Gorges.

Carved out by the Dades River, it’s a place you should head to for stunning panoramas. What’s more, if you’re a geology buff, you’ll love it! You can also do a few different hikes around the gorges, just make sure you go with a guide as the terrain will be unfamiliar.

Visit Moulay Idriss Zerhoun

Nestled at the foot of Mount Zerhoun, Moulay Idriss Zerhoun is also an important village for Moroccan locals and Muslims alike. It was the first place where the Idrisid dynasty came to power and brought Isalm to the country.

Around the town itself, you’ll find numerous hiking and walking routes that are great early in the morning. Inside the town, you’ll find quaint little bakeries, olive presses and numerous cafés.

See the magnificent Ouzoud waterfall

Top most beautiful places to visit: Close to the village of Tanaghmeilt, the Ouzoud waterfall is a great little spot to see in the Atlas Mountains.

You can visit the falls on a day trip from Marrakech if you don’t feel like leaving the city overnight.

Swimming in the falls is not recommended (due to currents and lack of safety), but you’ll probably see a few people bathing on the sides.

See the arches of Legzira beach

Not so long ago, some of the arches (for which Legzira beach is famous) collapsed into the sea.

Now, that shouldn’t stop you visiting – it’s still a beautiful beach, especially at sunset, and you can still admire the magnificent red cliffs and other arches that have survived. You’ll also find plenty of places to eat.

It’s always very popular with visitors, so if you don’t like crowds, we recommend avoiding weekends.

Our 10-day Morocco itinerary

Day 1 to Day 3: Marrakech

Marrakech, the red city, is the ideal place to discover Morocco. Jema El-Fnaa Square is one of the city’s liveliest spots, with musicians, snake charmers and street food. Take time to wander the cobbled streets of the medina and discover the colorful, bustling souks. Also visit the Majorelle Garden, an oasis garden created by French artist Jacques Majorelle, and the Yves Saint Laurent Museum, dedicated to the life and work of the famous couturier.

Day 4 Setti Fatma

Less than 2 hours’ drive from Marrakech lies Setti Fatma, a charming little village in the heart of the Ourika waterfalls. It’s an ideal place to escape the city and recharge your batteries while admiring the mountains and waterfalls.

Day 5: Marrakech – Aït-ben-Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Gorges

On the fifth day, you’ll head for Aït-ben-Haddou, a pretty village listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This fortified village is famous for its kasbahs, mud houses and cobbled streets. From here, you’ll continue on to Ouarzazate, the “gateway to the desert”, before heading on to the Dades Gorges, an impressive mountain defile home to lush vegetation and diverse wildlife.

Day 6: Dades Gorges – Todgha Gorges – Merzouga Desert

On day 6, you’ll visit the Gorges du Todgha, another mountain pass renowned for its 300-meter-high cliffs. You’ll then head for the Merzouga Desert, at the gateway to the Sahara, for a unique adventure under the stars.

Day 7 Merzouga Desert – Fez
